This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I Jonathan Ketchum of Onslow County, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following: First: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Linsy Ketchum the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars over and above what I agreed to give her in a marriage contract, also I give her one bed and furniture, my yoak of young steers, one black cow, my loom and furniture, one half of my kitchen furniture, two sows and pigs, four genis, half dozen gees, one walnut table, wheeloom & cards, one big chest, all my beaufat furniture, also I lend to my wife Linsy, during her natural life, my Negro girl Bridgett and at her dece'd I give the said Bridgeet and her increase to my children by wife Linsy. I also give to my three children Jonathan, Elizabeth, Pheby, the three following Negroes; Cole, Nell and Bricent, also I give them three beds and furniture, also I give to my daughter Elizabeth two black cows & also give and bequeath to my son David my tool chest and all my carpender and farmers tools chain compass magnit and surveying instruments. I also give and bequeath to my wife and nine children all my books on religious subjects to be equally divided in value I also give and bequeath to my son Solomon my book case and the rest of my books and phamplets and one silver watch I will and desire that the carpenter ship between David Ketchum of the one part and myself of the other shall continue to the first of May next, he the said David Ketchum to pay one third of the expense and have one third of the profit. I also will and bequeath to my children by my wife Elizabeth the following Negros and their increase Godfrey, Silvey, Jinny, Jim, Hannah, and Tom. I also give and devise to my daughter Alice three hundred acres of land bounded by easternmost line and Rogerson lines and the millpond with one bed and furniture. I also give and devise to my sons William and Solomon my land on the east side of the mills not otherwise disposed of with one piece on the west side beginning at a sweet gum, taners and my corner running out with tanners line, one hundred and sixty poles then to David corner and with his line to the mill pond also I give each of them a bed and furniture I also give and devise to my son David one piece of land on the west side of the mill pond beginning at a cedar, Daws corner thence acrossed the swamp to Daws last corner, thence up the swamp with Daws line opposite the mouth of meeting house branch and up the said branch to the main road, thence North 72 West to Marshels line, thence north twenty west sixty three poles to Marshels corner, thence North twenty west one hundred seventy five poles, thence North seventy east one hundred and twenty eight poles to Mill pond thence down the mill pond and with the various water courses round to the first station. I give and devise to my daughter Sally one tract or parcel of land beginning on meeting house branch at the main road running with David line to Marshels survey thence with Marshel line round to the Mitchels Swamp thence with Hewitts line down and across the swamp to the top of the hill thence along the said Hill to Hawkinses corner, thence to David corner, thence with his line across the swamp to the mouth of meeting house branch thence up said branch to the first station and one bed and furniture. I give and devise to my sons David, William, and Solomon my mills and three surveys of land lying near the mud shoale. I give and devise to my daughter Anna all my land on Mitchels Swamp lying west of the land I gave to Sally and west of the three boys lands. I give and devise to my three children by my wife Linsey all my lands not otherwise disposed of including my wife's dowery after her deces'd the rest of my property real and personal to be sold to settle legasees and pay just debts and the over plus to be divided equal between Jonathan, Elizabeth and Pheby. I will and devise my wife Linsy shall enjoy the use of my house for four years with five barrels of corn per year out of Williams land Solomon's part of the wills. I will and devise that my son David yous of Solomon's part of the mills by paying him one hundred dollars per year until the said Solomon arise to the age of eighteen, I devise him to have his property in his own care under the control of his gardend (guardian). I hereby appoint David and William Ketcham my sole executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 10th day of February in the year of our Lord 1818.
