This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, John King of Onslow County in the State of North Carolina, Planter, being in a weak low state of health, and calling to mind the mortality of this life, do therefore make this my last will and testament, revoking and disannulling all other and former wills by me heretofore made and first, I recommend my love into the hands of Almighty God, that give it me, hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ to obtain world lasting salvation, and my body I desire to be buried in a Christian like manner and as to my worldly estate, I dispose of in manner and form following, (to wit): ITEM: I give and bequeath Clarester Fields for the good will I have for her, my Negro wench named Filis, one Negro girl named Ann, best bed and furniture that I have at my plantation at the Southwest and five cows and calves of the choice of my stock, one five year (old) steer of the choice of my steers, one mare, the oldest (of) Stately's colts, with a good bridle with her, to her, heirs or assigns forever. ITEM: I give unto John Fields one cow and calf of the next best choice of my stock to him, his heirs or assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto Susannah Fields thirty pounds of current money and my two wearing hats, and my silver shoe buckles or another pair equal in value to them, the above mentioned I give to Susanna Fields out of good will and for work and services done, to she, her heirs, assigns forever. ITEM: I lend unto my loving wife Precilla King the plantation and house where she now lives, and Lewis & Beck, one bed and furniture, my best horse with a saddle and bridle induring her natural life. ITEM: I give unto my loving daughter Zilphia King my Negro wench named Luke and his son named Jack and my Negro boy named Abraham, the son of Buck, and six hundred and forty acres of land lying upon the branches Guse (Goose) Creek where Benjamin Beasley lives and the other plantation where Jno Jenkins lives & likewise the land and plantation where Henry Jenkins formerly lived, adjacent to the before mentioned land & plantation and the appurtenances thereunto belonging, one bed which always went by the name of her bed with a red bay sakentrott, complete bedstead and the best furniture, six cows and calves and one five year old steer, and the youngest mare of old Stately's, bridle and saddle known by the name of her own and one silver cup, three silver spoons and three silver teaspoons to she, her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my loving son John King my Negro wench named Rina, and my Negro boys named Adam and Michael and my Negro wench named Jinn, six cows & calves & one five year old steer and the mare, bridle & saddle that he now has with him or the mare that was formerly called his own and my young stallion colt, that some of the mare I bought of George Brinson, lent to him, his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto William King, son of John King and Mary King his wife, one cow and calf to him, his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my loving son Benajah King one Negro fellow named Zarmoth and my Negro boy named Mingo, to him, his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Mary King one silver cup, three silver tablespoons and three silver teaspoons and my prayer book & Bible, and five shillings sterling to she, her heirs and assigns forever. TIEM: I give and bequeath unto my grandson John King my Negro boy by the name of Amus and one cow and calf to him, his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my loving son Benajah King my plantation and three hundred & fifty acres of land adjacent & Moles Island & Owens Island, be there more or less two plantations, & all the adjacent thereunto belonging. in fork of Beasley's Creek and three hundred & twenty acres of land patent with John King, to him, his heirs or assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my loving son John King my plantation and two hundred & fifty acres of land adjacent to it lying and being on the north side of the Beaver Dam Branch, of the South west of New River, also a plantation lying on Turkey Creek and the adjacent lands belonging to it, also the house at the fork of the road and the lands adjacent to it where my wife now lives at her dec's, to them, his heirs and assigns forever. I leave two fatted oxen & all my bacon that can be spared by my family to be sent to town in order to pay, discharge my funeral charges and all my other debts, if this be not a neff to discharge all my other debts, I desire that my best killiable cattle or horses shall be sold as far as or will satisfy them and the rest of my cattle and horses that is not already given away and stock of all kinds and household furniture of every sort or kind and my plantation and all other tools of every kind or sort whatsoever that is not heretofore given away, I leave to be equally divided by lot amongst four; my loving wife Priscilla King, Benajah King, my son John King and my daughter Zilphia King, to them, their heirs and assigns forever. Lastly, I appoint Mark McClamey and Luke McClamey of Hanover County & my son Benajah King & Dan Yeatt & John Jones of Onslow County and Bigers Mobley of Sampson County, executors of this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenth (twentieth) day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety. John King Sr. (seal) Onslow County: September the third 1791: the above codisle (codicil) and the within mentioned instrument of writing said to be the will of John King Senr dec'd, is a true copy taken from the original that was filed in my office after being set aside by the court and jury at Onslow January term 1791.
