This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: The first day of December in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred eighty one, I Joseph Loyd of the county of Onslow and State of North Carolina, Planter, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say, First of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, as for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner, discreet manner at the discretion of Suzaner Loyd who I appoint sole executrix with Thomas Mashborn executor, nothing doubting but at (omission of words?) of general Resurrection, I shall receive the same again at the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate that whereof it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form (IMPRIMUS:) it is my will and I do order that in the first place, all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfied. ITEM: I lend my beloved wife Suzaner Loyd my plantation during her natural life. ITEM: I give unto my son Joseph Loyd (Jr.) one hundred and seventy six acres of land, the upper part of the tract of land on where I now live and part of a new survey, I also give two cows and calves and calves, one case of bottles, one middle size pot iron, one puter dish, two large puter basins and three puter plates. ITEM: I give unto my son Daniel Loyd two hundred acres of land, it being the other part of my aforesaid land, two cows and calves, one large iron pot, hooks and trammel with it & one large puter dish, two large puter basins and three puter plates. ITEM: I give unto my son John Loyd one hundred acres of land on (torn, cannot read) ITEM: I give unto my daughter Suzaner Loyd one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf. ITEM: I give unto my daughter Rebecca Loyd one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf. ITEM: I give unto my daughter Mary Loyd one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one small iron pot, one brass spice morter & beater, one box iron and heators. ITEM: I give unto my son Thomas Loyd twenty shillings Speacy. ITEM: I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Mashborn twenty shillings Speacy. ITEM: I give unto Sara Fisher twenty shillings Speacy. ITEM: I give unto my daughter Ann Jones twenty shillings Speacy. ITEM I lend all the remainder of my estate, that is not given in legacies, to my wife during her widowhood and after her widowhood to be equally divided amongst my four youngest children Rebecca, Joseph, Daniel and Mary and nothing to be sold I do hereby declare this to be my last will and testament the day and date above written.
