ONSLOW COUNTY, NC - WILL BOOK A - Edward Melton, 1823 ----¤¤¤---- Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, Edward Melton of the State of North Carolina and County of Onslow, being weak of body but of sound mind and memory, do think it proper to dispose of such worldly property with which God has blessed me in manner and form following (to wit) FIRST: I desire that my body be decently interred at the discretion of my executors thereafter named. ITEM: I desire that all my just debts paid. ITEM: My will that my wife Farely Melton should have and possess all my land and tenement on Wallams Creek during her widowhood and until my son Edward Melton shall come to the age of twenty one years, and if she should live in a widowed state, that she should hold during her life one third part of my said land and the remaining two thirds to belong equally to my two sons Edward Durant Melton and Owen Stanford Melton and that at the death or marriage of my said wife, my will and desire is that my said two sons have and possess equally all my lands which I give and bequeath to them and their heirs forever, and in case either of them should die before they arrive to twenty one years of age, I give the whole of my lands to the survivor, to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I do hereby confirm a gift heretofore made my two daughters Penelope and Sarah of a bed and furniture, some pewter and a cow and calf or a beef stear to Lewis Davis. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife & two sons equally all my household and kitchen furniture, tools and utensils of every description of which I am possessed, and all of my hogs. ITEM: I give to my son in law Isaac Littleton ten dollars to be paid him out of my stock of cattle. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my wife & two sons one cow and calf each, to her chosen by my wife out of my stock and my will is that the remainder of my stocks of cattle be equally divided between my wife, two sons, my daughter Penolope and the heirs of daughter Sarah lawfully begotten of her body, to be divided equally to share and share alike either by sale or mutual division by consent. ITEM: I give to my wife any monies, debts due of, or property not otherwise given for the support and maintenance of herself and two sons for the year to come together with what provisions may be on hand. I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Ferely Melton Executrix and my (son?) when at the age of eighteen years (if he thinks proper to qualify) executor to this my last will and testament utterly revoking all other former wills or deeds of gift by heretofore made declaring this to be my last will.
