This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, Liston Russell of the County of Onslow, being of sound and perfect mind and memory (blessed be God) calling to mind the mortality of man kind that it is appointed for all men once to die, do this second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand (seven hundred) & ninety-nine make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say: ITEM: First of all, my will and desire is that all my just debts be paid. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sary Russell one horse, bridle and saddle, one feather bed and furniture, one loom and gear, one chest, one table, one puter dish, and six earthen plates, two sitting chairs, one pair of silver shear buckles, three cows and calves, four head of sheep, ten head of hogs with their increase to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Micajah Russell a certain tract or piece of land adjoining of Thomas Pitts and Geroc Brinson land, beginning as follows in the fork of two branches at or near the crossing of the cart road that goes over by Thomas Pitts, thence runs up Ritcherson branch, the various courses to the head, thence runs a straight line to the patten line, thence turn with the patten line eastwardly to the corner a pine near the head of a branch, thence turns down near the branch to a poplar in the branch, it being the corner of a piece of land that I bought of Jacob Lee, thence down the various courses of the branch to the first station and my shotgun to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son John Russell a certain tract or piece of land lying on the south side of the River dam branch, beginning on the north side of the River dam branch, beginning as follows: at a pine near the side of said branch, thence runs up the various courses of said branch to a White Oak near the run. It being the upper corner of a piece of land that I bought of David Gornto, thence runs out to a center of sum pines in a meadow, thence eastwardly along a line of marked trees agreed on between Enos Ellis and Linton Russell to the huckleberry slash thence with various courses of the slash to a marked pine on the side of said slash, thence a stake line running towards the beaver dam branch to a pine, it being the beginning tree of the land that I bought of David Gornto and near the meeting house path, thence along the said path to the main road, thence down the road to the paten line of the land that I now live on, thence with the said line to the first station, to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Elijah Russell my lower plantation and the adjoining land belonging to me between the dam & the big branch toward Thomas Pitts up to a marked pine on Ritcherson branch, thence along a line of marked trees to the beaver dam run and all my lands lying over the main road on the west side that I have not give to my son John Russell, lying between his line and Rachel lee's line it being part of the land that I bought of Enoch Ellis, to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Catherin Russell one feather bed & furniture, one large green chest, one fallen leaf table, one puter dish & six plates, two sitting chairs, two cows and calves, to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son James Russell my plantation next to the main road including the house wherein I now live with all the out housing and all the adjoining lands that I have not already disposed of to my three above mentioned sons, belonging to me, lying between their lines to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my above mentioned children to which Micajah, John, Elijah, Catharine, & James Russell certain piece of land to the amount of fifty acres lying on the marshes between Topsail Enlet & stump Enlet wherein John Fullwood and myself was patten to them and their heirs lawfully begotten of their body forever. ITEM: I lend to my beloved wife Sary Russell all my stock of cattle, horses, hogs and sheep during her widowhood and all my plantation tools and all y other property that have not been heretofore given to support her and my children, and at her marriage or death, for all my stock with the increase of them and all the other property that I have lent her to be sold and money given to my daughter Cathern Russell and my will and desire is that my wife Sary Russell have the use of my plantation that I have above given to my son James with the privileges of the said land for the support of the plantation. ITEM: My will and desire is that my family be kept all together and that my children have a reasonable portion of schooling which shall leave in the best of executors to judge of, all by my son Elijah Russell, my will and desire is that he should have sum what extraordinary by reason of his weaklings and all the expenses of the schooling will all other expenses that shall hereafter arise in any wise to be raised out of the ungiven part of my property at the discretion of my worthy executors that I hall hereafter mention. ITEM: My will and desire is that if my two sons Micajah and John Russell, either of them should die without an heir lawfully begotten of their body, that their land should fall to the surviving brother of them two. ITEM: My will and desire is that my other two sons to wit, Elijah & James Russell, either of them should die without surviving an heir lawfully begotten of their body that their land shall fall to the surviving brother of them two. ITEM: My will and desire is that the money be raised to pay my debts out of the ungiven part of my property that my executors shall think can be the best shared. ITEM: Last of all I hereby ordain my worthy friends Nathan Murray, Thomas Pitts, & James Floyd, executors of this my last will and testament, in witness where I the said Linton Russell have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
