ONSLOW COUNTY, NC - WILL BOOK A - George Shepard, Sr., 29 Aug 1822 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, George Shepard Senior, Planter, of the County of Onslow & State of North Carolina, being weak of body & in a low state of health but of perfect & sound mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner & form following & as to what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bestow on me in this life, I give and dispose of the same in manner & form following. IMPRIMUS: First of all my will & desire is that all my just debts & funeral expenses be fully paid and satisfied. ITEM: I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Shepard two Negro women named Violet & Milcy one horse named Tobe one riding chair harness two feather beds & furniture three cows & calves one bofat & furniture thereunto belonging during her natural life or widowhood & a sufficiency of corn & pork for her part one year at the descretion of my executors. ITEM; I leave one Negro man named Ned to be hired out yearly during my wife Mary Shepard life time or widowhood & the hire of said Negro Ned to be applied the use of my wife Mary Shepard at the descretion of my executors & at the decease of my wife Mary Shepard or enter marriage my will and desire is that the said Negro Ned, Violet, and Milcy be sold & disposed in manner following likewise all the other property lent to my wife I leave to be sold at her deceased or entermarriage at the descretion of my executor. ITEM: I give unto my beloved wife Mary Shepard forty dollars in money to her and her heirs & assigns forever. ITEM: I give unto my beloved wife Mary Shepard two chests to her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give unto my beloved son Alford Shepard fifty dollars in money to him and his heirs & assigns forever. ITEM: I give unto my beloved son Hosey Shepard one set of Blacksmith tools which he has now in possession to him & his heirs & assigns forever. ITEM: My will & desire is that all my property of every description not mentioned in this will nor oterh wise disposed of be sold at my deceased at the descretion of my executors. ITEM: My will & desire is that all money that the property lent to my wife Mary Shepard shall sell for at her deceased or entermarriage & a man of the withing mentioned Negroes Ned Violet and Milcy amount of the above mentioned property not named in this will which I leave to be sold at my deceased to be equally divided between my beloved sons Hosey Shepard & Thomas Shepard, Henry Shepard, Hardy Shepard, George Shepard & my beloved daughter Sarah James, Areth Far, Anny Parker & Elisabeth Farr, to them & their heirs forever. And I do here nominate & appoint my good & trusty friend John S. Johnston to be my whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament & I do hereby revoke & disanull all other former wills heretofore by mem made or named ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of August 1822.
