This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, Caleb Smith (Sr.) of Onslow County and State of North Carolina, being in a low state of health but of perfect mind and memory, thanks to the Lord for the same, but calling to mind that it is appointed once for all men to dye, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in the usual form and following; that is to say in the first, it is my desire to commit my soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors. ITEM: 1st, I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Mary Smith one feather bedstead and furniture, one mare called Nicholos, one chair and harness, to her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: 2nd, I give devise and bequeath unto my two youngest sons Josiah Smith and Jobe Smith the lands whereon I now live, not as tenants in common but to share and share alike equally & fairly, one tract was granted to myself the 24th Nov 1790, the other purchased from Isaac Colaway (Conway or Carraway?), to them, their heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: 3rd, I give and bequeath unto my son Caleb Smith (Jr.) one hundred dollars to him, heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: 4th, All the residue of my estate, real and personal, I desire my executors to sell (except a horse, saddle and bridle being reserved to my son Job Smith) at public auction, the net proceeds thereof, after paying my just debts and the above sum of a hundred dollars to my son Caleb Smith, be equally and fairly divided among all of my children & loving wife, them & their heirs assigns forever. Lastly I nominate, appoint my wife Mary Smith, my oldest son Daniel Smith & third son Caleb Smith Junr, executors of this my last will, revoking and disannulling all others by me made, acknowledging this only. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 5th day of February Anno Domini 1811. Parson meaning the one already delivered to them, their heirs and assigns forever.
