In the name of God, Amen: I, Samuel Sowell, of Onslow County, being of sound 
and perfect mind and memory blessed be God I do commit my sole to God and my 
body to clay, do this the 7th day of September in the year of our Lord, do 
make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner following that is 
to say:

ITEM: First of all it is my desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses 
be paid.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary all my hole estate rail and 
personal during her natural life or widowhood in order for support to raise 
the small children and school them.
ITEM: My desire is at the death or marriage of my wife Mary,…..(omitted….).
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving son Will five shillings.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving son Frederick five shillings.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Elizabeth Canady fifty 
dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Anne Canady fifty dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving son Jacob eighty dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving son Jarman eighty dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Polley eighty dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Samuel eighty dollars.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Elius eighty dollars.
ITEM: It is my desire that after the death or marriage of my wife and after 
all my children received their part of my estate before mentioned then if any 
part left, I desire that it should be equally divided between all of my sons 
and daughters, in this will before mentioned.

And I hereby make and ordain my worthy friend William Sowell and Richard 
Simpson executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I the 
said Samuel Sowell have to this my last will and testament in witness whereof 
I the said Samuel Sowell have to this my last will and testament in witness 
whereof I the said Samuel Sowell have set my hand and seal this 7th day of 
September in the year of our Lord above written 1808.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Samuel Sowell the testator as 
his last will and testament in the presence of us who were present at the time 
of signing and sealing thereof.

ONSLOW COUNTY: In court July term 1809, this will was proved by Shadrick 
Sowell a subscribing witness and William Sowell one of the executors therein 
named qualified thereto ordered he have letters testamentary.
