UNNAMED BURIAL GROUND ON LONG PROPERTY 1301 SMITH LEVEL ROAD CHAPEL HILL, ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA This property was originally called the Smith Brother's Plantation. The property was later willed to the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bruce Long's grandfather, a Crabtree, bought the property when the University sold it. There were only two tombstones that survived many years of weathering. We found 13 partial stones scattered around on the edge of a housing development. The remnants of hurricane Fran are still evident, which in fact, led us to find the stones. If we had not crawled over a large fallen tree, we would not have spotted the partial stones.
