Orange County, NC – Bethmont Academy - Act to Incorporate, 1829 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An Act to incorporate Bethmont Academy, in the county of Orange Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Rev. Elijah Graves, Samuel Jackson, George W. Morrow, Wm. Thompson, Wm. Morrow, sen'r, James Thompson, Elijah Pickard and Samuel Crawford, be, and they are incorporated, by the name and style of the Trustees of Bethmont Academy, and by that name shall be capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, acquire by purchase, gift or otherwise, to them and their successors, estate real or personal, for the use of the academy, and enjoy all other powers, privileges and immunities incident to bodies corporate of the like nature. Be it further enacted, That in case of a vacancy occuring by death, resignation or otherwise of said trustees, the remainder, or a majority of them, may appoint successors to the same, who shall have the same powers and authority as the trustees constituted by the provisions of this act.
