Gates This Indenture made the 12th day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty Six between Martha Bumpass of the County of Orange in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Henry T. Gates of the County of Orange and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Martha Bumpass for and in consid =eration of the Sum of Two Hundred & Ninety five Dollars to her in hand paid by the said Henry T. Gates the receipt whereof the said Martha Bumpass doth hereby acknowledge Hath given granted bargained and Sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents Doth give grant bargain and Sell alien and confirm unto the said Henry T Gates his heirs and assigns forever all that tract of Land situate lying and being in the County of orange On the Waters of Little River adjoining Lands of Wm Cain John B. Leathers the said Martha Bumpass & others Bounded as follows Beginning at a Stake on Wm Cains line & in a Mill road running thence South 80 degrees West with his line 9 ½ chains to a branch thence North 80 degrees west 3 ½ chains to a post Oak thence North 20 degrees West 40 chains to pointers thence North 60 degrees East 10 ¾ chains to a Stake thence North 70 degrees West 5 ½ chains to Pointers thence North 33 degrees West 13 [?] chains to a Stake thence with John B Leathers line to a Black Gum thence North to the corner formerly Laws, thence East with that line to a Stake 7 ½ chains thence South 35 West about Five chains to a marked line then East to Nealeys line then South with his line 10 chains to Cains Mill road & with that road to the Beginning Containing Two Hundred & thirty eight acres more or less. And also all the woods ways waters and Water Courses and all and every the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits of the aforesaid lands and premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim property and demand whatsoever of the said Martha Bumpass of in and to the lands and premises hereby granted TO have and to hold the aforesaid lands and premises with with the appurtenances unto the said Henry T. Gates his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Henry T. Gates his heirs and assigns forever and the said Martha Bumpass for herself and her heirs the aforesaid lands and premises and every part thereof against herself and her heirs and against the claim or claims of all and every other person or persons whatsoever to the said Henry T.
