Martha Bumpass to John B. Leathers

This Indenture made the 29th day of April
in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred
and Fifty Six between Martha Bumpass of the County
of Orange in the State of North Carolina of the one
part and John B. Leathers of the County of Orange
and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that
the said Martha Bumpass for and in consideration
of the sum of Five hundred & twenty two Dollars & fifty
cents to her in hand paid by the said John B.
Leathers the receipt whereof the said Martha
Bumpass doth hereby acknowledge Hath given
granted bargained and sold aliened and confirmed
and by these presents Doth give grant bargain and
sell alien and confirm unto the said John B. Leathers
his heirs and assigns forever all that tract of land situate
lying and being in the County of Orange on the Waters
of Mountain Creek adjoining lands of John Tilley Senr
heirs of John Nealey decd and other lands of said
Martha Bumpass Bounded as follows Beginning
at a Stake where the Red Mountain road
crosses the Oxford & Hillsborough now the home of the
said Martha Bumpass running thence Northward
with the red Mountain Road 66 chains 30 links to a
post oak on the East side Nealys corner then his line
East 7 chains to a Spanish Oak then South 2
chains 85 links to a white Oak his corner thence his
line South 82½ degrees East 7 [?] chains to a Rock
with pointers John Tillys corner then his line South
2½ degrees west 14 chains to a Red Oak then South
39 [?] West 7 chains 70 links to a Sweet gum then
South 1[?] West 7 chains 35 links to a Rock Tillys corner
then his line South 24 chains & 70 links to a Stake
in the Hillsborough & Oxford road near the ford of
Mountain creek thence South Westward with the road
to the beginning Containing by survey 104½ acres
and also all the woods ways waters and water courses
and all and every the appurtenances thereunto belong
=ing or in anywise appertaining and the reversion
and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues
and profits of the aforesaid lands and premises and
every part thereof and all the estate right title
interest claim property and demand whatsoever
of the said Martha Bumpass of in and to the lands
and premises hereby granted. To have and to hold
the aforesaid lands and premises with the appurte
=nances unto the said John B. Leathers his heirs and
assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said
John B. Leathers his heirs and assigns forever and the
aforesaid lands and premises and every part thereof
against herself and her heirs and against the claim
whatsoever to the said John B Leathers his heirs
and assigns shall and will Warrant and forever
defend by these presents

hath hereunto set her hand and affixed her seal
