ORANGE COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - James Clendennen to Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas, 6 Apr 1796 Orange County Deed Book 5 p.430 James Clendennen to Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas This Indenture made this sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six between James Clendennen of Orange County and state of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas both of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James Clendennen for and in consideration of the sum of ten pounds current money of the said state to him in hand paid by the said Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas the eight. Where of the said James Clendennen doth hereby acknowledge hath granted , bargained and sold and by these presence doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas their heirs and assigns all that tract of land lying and being in the county aforesaid and on the waters of Haw Creek beginning at a Black Oak sapling on the banks of Haw Creek running south fifteen degrees east eight poles to a Red Oak thence west fifteen poles to a Hickory thence north fifty-five degrees west nine poles to two White Oak saplings thence north fifteen degrees west twenty-five poles to a stone thence north twenty-five degrees east eight poles to a Black Gum on the said Creek thence up the meanders of the said Creek to the first station containing two acres be the same more or less and all appurtenances to the same. Belonging and also the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents issues and profits to the said premises and every part thereof and all the right title and interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said James Clendennen of in and to the said premises above mentioned to have and to hold the said Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas their heirs and assigns forever and the said premises and every part thereof against himself his heirs and assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever to the said Joseph Hodge and Richard Christmas their heirs and assigns forever shall and will warrant and defend the same forever by these presents in witness whereof the said Janis Clendennen hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and date above written.
