Nathaniel Christmas to Thomas Durham 

This indenture made the 21st day of November in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven between Thomas Durham of the
county of Orange and state of North Carolina of the one part and
Nathaniel Christmas of the county and state aforesaid of the other part
Witnesseth that the said Nathaniel Christmas for and in consideration of
the sum of twenty-five pounds to him in hand paid by the said Thomas
Durham before the ensiling  and delivery of these presents the receipt
whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted,  bargained and sold
and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said Thomas
Durham a tract or parcel  of land lying and being in Orange County on
the waters of Little Cain Creek.  Beginning to a Post Oak on Charles
Christmas' line running with said line east ten chains to a Red Oak
thence south fifty-five and a half chains to an Ash on the creek thence
down the meanders of the creek two and a half chains to a White Oak
thence south eighty-five west thirteen and a half chains to a Hickory
thence to the beginning.  Containing ten acres be the same more or less
and all appurtenances in any wise to the same belonging and the said
Nathaniel Christmas for himself and his heirs to the said Thomas Durham
the said tract of land and premises against the claim or claims of any
other person or persons will warrant and forever defend in witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above
written.

The execution of the within deed was duly proved in open court by the
oath of Henry O'Daniels a subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be
recorded.
