Nathaniel Christmas to Augustus Benton
This Indenture made the 10th day of October in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven.  Between Nathaniel Christmas of
Orange County in the state of North Carolina of the one part and
Augustus Benton of the same county and state aforesaid of the other
part.  Witnesseth that the said Nathaniel Christmas for and in
consideration of the sum of fifty pounds to him in hand paid by the said
Augustus Benton at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof the said Nathaniel Christmas doth hereby
acknowledge, hath granted, bargained and sold, aliened, enfeoffed,
released and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, and sell,
alien, enfoff, release and confirm unto the said Augustus Benton one lot
of two acres of grown in the town adjoining to the building of the
University in Orange County lying on, Franklin Street and Number fifteen
/15/ in the plan of said Town and all woods, trees, waters, and
appurtenances to the said lot of two acres of grown belonging.  To have
and to hold the said lot together with the appurtenances to the said
Augustus Benton his hairs and assigns forever and the said Nathaniel
Christmas, for himself and his heirs doth covenant and agree to and with
the said Augustus Benton and his heirs that he the said Nathaniel
Christmas and his heirs will warrant and defend the said lot of two
acres of grown to the said Augustus Benton his heirs and assigns forever
and against the lawful claim of all persons forever.  In witness whereof
the said Nathaniel Christmas hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day
and year first above written.
