Laws to Harris Wilkerson June 6, 1836 Orange County Deed Book 27, Page 517 & 518 This Indenture made this 6th day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred thirty six between James P. Laws and Minerva Ann Laws his Wife of the County of Haywood and State of Tennessee of the one part and Harris Wilkerson of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina of the other part Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of the sum of eighty nine dollars & sixty eight and three fourth cents to them in hand paid by the said Harris Wilkerson the receipt is hereby fully acknowledged: hath bargained granted aliened sold and delivered unto the said Harris Wilkerson his heirs & assigns forever one fourth part of a tract of land lying and being in the County of Orange & State of North Carolina on the waters of Ellebee's & Cub Island Creeks whereon William Leathers died seized & possessed of, better known as the Leathers cross road tract of land adjoining the lands of Pamphrett Gooch Fielding Lewis and the tract of Land formerly owned by Burton Clark now Harris Woods's containing (210) two hundred and ten acres be the same more or less to have and to hold the fourth part of the aforesaid tract of land of two hundred and ten acres more or less with all ? and singular the rights and appurtenances to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Harris Wilkerson his heirs and assigns forever and the said James P. Laws & his Wife Minerva Ann Laws for themselves their their heirs & doth covenant to and with the said Harris Wilkerson his heirs ? the aforesaid fourth part of the tract of land of two hundred and ten acres more or less With all and singular the rights and appurtenances thereunto belonging and will forever warrant and defend all the rights and title against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever In Witness whereof the said James P. Laws and Minerva Ann Laws his ife hath hereunto set their hands affixed their seals the day & date above mentioned Signed sealed & delivered ) in the presence of us ) James P. Laws (seal) B. State of Tennessee ) June Term 1836 Haywood County ) This Deed of conveyance for one fourth part of a tract of land of two hundred and ten acres of land from James P. Laws and Minerva Ann Laws was produced in open Court and the execution thereof duly acknowledged by James P. Laws one of the makers and ordered to be so certified and also said Manerva Ann Laws on her part, acknowledged, that she signed the same of her own free will and consent, she being first privately examined by the Court separate and apart from her said husband without the threats or constraint of her husband and is ordered to be so certified. In testimony whereof I Littleton Joyner Clerk of said County Court have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court at Office in Brownsville this 7th day of June A.D. 1836 and the 60th Year of American Independence Littleton Joyner clk I Wm E. Owen Chairman of the County Court of Haywood County in the State of Tennessee do hereby certify that Littleton Joyner whose signature appears to the above certificate as Clerk is the Clerk of the Court as there stated that said Certificate is due form of law and that full faith and credit are due his official acts. Given under my hand & seal this 7th day of June 1836 Wm E. Owen (seal) Orange County August Term 1837 This Deed & the certificate thereon were exhibited in open court and it appearing to the Court that the Execution thereof was duly proved in Haywood County State of Tennessee on motion it is ordered that said Deed & Certificate be registered.
