Horman & Dicey Laws to Josiah Turner
Orange County Deed Book 28, Page 142 & 143

     This Indenture made the ninth day September in the year of our
Lord 1838 Between Horman Laws & Dicey Laws his wife of the County of
Orange & State North Carolina of the one part & Josiah Turner of the
town of Hillsborough & State & County aforesaid of the other part
witnesseth that the said Horman Laws & Dicey Laws his wife for & in
consideration of the sum of twenty five dollars to them in hand paid by
the said Josiah Turner at or before the sealing & delivery of these
presents the receipt whereof they doth hereby acknowledge them the said
Horman Laws & Dicey Laws the wife of the said Horman Laws hath given
granted bargained & Sold aliened released ? confirmed & by these
presents doth give grant bargain sell alien release ? & confirm unto
the said Josiah Turner his heirs & assigns all that tract or parcel of
land situate lying & being in county of Orange & State aforesaid & on
the waters of the north fork of Little river ? ? then of the
tract of land that the late Stephen Smith dcd seized & possessed
supposed to contain sixty-five acres more or less & adjoining the lands
of William H Halls heirs & Jacob Waggoner & others together with all
woods & underwoods Timber Timber trees ways waters water courses
profits commodities Hereditaments & appurtenances whatsoever thereunto
belonging or in any wise appertaining to have & to hold the said tract
of land or parcel of land & all & singular the premises hereby granted
with their appurtenancy unto the said Josiah Turner to the only proper
use & behoof of him the said Josiah Turner his heirs & assigns for ever
Furthermore the said Horman Laws & Dicey his wife for themselves &
their heirs executors & administrators doth hereby covenant & ?
the above ? premises to him said Josiah Turner his heirs & assigns
against the lawful claims or demands of any person or persons
whatsoever forever to warrant secure & defend by these presents in
witness whereof the said Horman Laws & Dicy Laws his wife hath
hereunto set their hand & affixed their seals the day & year first
above written signed sealed & delivered in presence of us

     The Execution of the foregoing deed of Bargain & sale having been
Acknowledged before me by Horman Laws & Dicey Laws his wife & upon the
? examination of the said Dicey apart from her husband as to her
voluntary execution of the same with out the constraint or coercion of
her said Husband she did acknowledge that she executed the same freely
& of her own accord & without the constraint or coercion of her said
husband - Therefore let the same with this certificate be registered.
