Catherine Readen to James Ward

This Indenture made this Ninth day of April in the Year of our
Lord one thousand Eight hundred & Twenty Seven between
Catherine Readen of the County of Orange State of North Carolina
of the one part & James Ward of the County & State aforesaid of the other
part Witnesseth that the sd. Catherine Readen for & in Consideration
of the Sum of Ten dollars to her in hand paid & made sure before
the signing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged by the said Catherine Readen & doth the said James
Ward acquit & discharge Hath bargained, Sold & made over and
doth by these presents Bargain, sell make over & Confirm unto the
Sd James Ward his heirs & assigns forever A Certain Piece or Parcel
of land lying & being in the County of Orange on the Waters of
Stags Creek adjoining the lands of Empson Bird, William Readen
& the said James Ward Bounded as follows from Empson
Birds Corner White Oak by the Rock near the fork of the
creek a Northwardly Course to short [?] Persemon
Tree & Hickory Saplin to William Readens line, thence East with
his line to his Corner Sassafras on the bank of the Creek, then
down the Meanders of the Creek to Empson Birds Corner
White Oak Supposed to be between Two & Three Acres
of land To Have & To hold & peaceably possess & enjoy the aforesaid
Lot of land together with all appurtenances priviledges to the
emoluments thereunto belonging free from the claim, right
title or interest of her the sd. Catherine Readen her heirs Exrs
admrs. to the only proper use of him the said James Ward his
heirs Exrs. & assigns forever And the sd. Catharine doth Covenant
promise & agree that she will at all time & for ever against
herself her heirs her heirs Exrs. Admrs. or assigns & against
all & every other Persons Whatever the right of the aforesaid
land & premises Warrant & forever defend to the said James
Ward his heirs Exrs. Admrs. & assigns forever. In witness
I have hereunto set my hand & Seal the date above written
