All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jacqueline Wilkerson jgwilkerson@embarqmail.com March 31, 2009, 2:45 am Written: September 1, 1798 Recorded: May 1799 Orange County North Carolina Deed Book 8, Page 15,16 John Reading to James Thompson John Reading to James Thompson This Indenture made this first day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight Between John = = Reading and Ann his wife of Orange County and State of North Carolina of the one part and James Thompson of the same County and State of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Reading and Ann = his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of sixty five pounds to them in hand paid by the said James Thompson he the said John = = Reading and Ann his wife hath demised granted and to farm letten] and by these presents doth dimise grant and to farm lett to the same James Thompson a Certain Messuage Tenement and tract of Land Situate in the County and State aforesaid being the one third part of a tract of land formerly the property of James Roach Decd. laid out for the widow of the said James including the mansion House and part of the old plantation or cleared land Begining at a black oak a corner of James Thompson runing thence East Ten chains to a red oak thence North four degrees west forty chains to a Red oak thence west fifteen chains to a stake in a field thence South twenty six degrees west twelve twelve chains & twenty give links to a post oak thence South sixty nine degrees East ten chains to a Stake Near and above a Spring thence south sixty degrees West nine chains and fifty links to a Hicory on James Thompsons line thence along the same South thirty one degrees East to the begining Containing sixty five acres To have hold use Occupy possess and enjoy the said Message or Tenement and all and singular the premises with these and every of these appurten= =ances unto the said James Thompson his Heirs and assigns from the day of the date hereof for and during the term of the Natural life of her the said Ann Reding with full and free priviledge to Clear and cultivate as much of the said lands as he the said James Thompson may think fit and convenient for his use and make use of the timbers as much as shall be necessary for building reparing Fencing [etc] In Testimony whereof he the said John = Reading and Ann his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed there Seals the day and year above and within written Signed Sealed & Delivered ) John Reading (Seal) In presence of ) her Benjamin Dixon (Jurat) Ann [?] Reading (Seal) his mark Luke X Grimes mark Wm Roach Orange County May Term 1799 The execution of the within Deed was duly proved in open Court by the oath of Benjamin Dixon one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Registered.
