All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com May 23, 2006, 3:17 am Lot 85, Corbinton [later Newbern] Orange Co, NC Written: November 4, 1755 North Carolina State Archives, Orange Co, Record of Deeds, Vol. 1, page 146, Microfilm C.073.40001 “This indenture made the 4th day of November in the year 1755 between William Reed of the County of Orange and province of North Carolina, tavern keeper, of the one part, and THOMAS CLARK of the county and province aforesaid, yeoman, of the other part, witnesseth that the said William Reed for, and in consideration of the sum of 1 pound, 6 shillings and three pence Virginia money, to him in hand paid by the said THOMAS CLARK at or before the ensealing hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged;” “Hath granted, bargained, and sold, aliened, en ????ed, released and confirmed and by these presents, doth grant, bargain, and sell, alien, en???, release and confirm unto the said THOMAS CLARK, his heirs and assigns forever, all that lot, ?messuage? or tenement containing by estimation one acre of land, be the same more or less, situate, lying and being in Newbern Corbin, or Corbinton, now so called, the said County of Orange and known by the lot next to and adjoining the prison and marked no. 85 in the plan of the said town, it being a lot granted to the said William Reed by deed from Mr. William Charton, bearing date the 4th day of November in the year, 1754. Also the revision and remainders, rents and services thereof, and all the estate, right, title, claim and demand whatsoever of him the said William Reed, of, in and to the said lot and premises hereby granted and sold, and to every part and parcel thereof, to have and to hold the said lot of land and premises with the appurtenances to the said THOMAS CLARK, his heirs and assigns, to the only proper and behoof of him, the said THOMAS CLARK, etc.” Additional Comments: THOMAS CLARK turned around and sold this property within 1 month of purchasing it, to Edward Dickie, for only 5 pounds, apparently for a loss.
