All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jacqueline Wilkerson jgwilkerson@embarqmail.com September 5, 2009, 4:17 pm Written: September 10, 1849 Recorded: November 1850 Orange County North Carolina Deed Book 33, Page 552, 553 John & Nancy Reding etal to William N Pratt Riley ) This Indenture made this tenth day of September in the & ) year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Nine others ) Between John Riley and Wife Sally James Browning & wife To ) Elizabeth Nancy Redding by John Redding attorney and Pratt ) the said John Redding who also conveys in this behalf in his own right, of the County of Orange & State of North Carolina of the one part and William N Pratt of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that whereas Margaret Redmond of said County departed this life intestate Seized and possessed of a certain tract of land lying in the County aforesaid on the waters of Eno Adjoining William Whitaker & others Bounded as follows. Begining at a Black Jack Whitakers corner running thence South thirty Seven chains to Pointers on Guess line thence West twenty Eight chains & Seventy five links to Pointers then North thirty nine chains & Eighty links to a Red Oak Stump Then East twenty seven chains & fifty links to the Begining Containing One Hundred and Ten acres and the said Margaret Redmon died without issue but leaving her surviving and entitled to said Land in partition the said John Riley & wife Sally James Browning & wife Elizabeth Nancy Redding & John Redmon as her next of kin and heirs at Law and the sare or interest of John Redmond having been heretofore sold by the sheriff of said County and the above named John Reding having become the purchaser thereof Now therefore this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Riley and wife Sally James Browning & wife Elizabeth Nancy Redding by John Reding attorney and the said John Reding for and in consideration of the sum of Ninety Six Dollars & fifty Cents to them in hand paid by the said William N Pratt at the time of executing these presents the Recpt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant bargain sell alien release and convey to the said William N Pratt his heirs and assigns forever the aforesaid Tract of Land To have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land with the appurtenances to the said William N Pratt his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Riley & Wife Sally James Browning & wife Elizabeth Nancy Reding by John Reding attorney and John Reding for themselves and their heirs have covenanted and agreed and by these presents do Covenant and agree to and with the said William N pratt that the right and title of the aforesaid tract of Land unto him & his heirs and assigns they will warrant & forever defend against the claims of all persons whatsoever In Witness whereof the said John Riley & wife Sally james Browning & wife Elizabeth Nancy Reding by John Reding Attorney & the said John Reding have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day & year first above written signed sealed and delivered in presence of John Reding (seal) E G Grey, witness as to ) Nancy Reding (seal) James Browning ) John Reding Atto. Turner John Riley (seal) her Sally X Riley (seal) mark Elizabeth X Browning (seal) mark his James X Browning (seal) mark North Carolina Be it remembered that this day appeared before me Thomas Little one of the Judges of the superior Court of Law & Equity for the State of North Carolina E G Grey the subscribing witness to the Within Deed who being duly sworn according to Law proved the execution of said deed by John Reding Nancy Reding by John Reding her attorney & the other Bargainers John Riley and wife Sally and Elizabeth Browning (James Browning not being present) appeared before & respectfully and in the presence of each other acknowledged that they executed and delivered said deed as their act and deed & the said Sally Riley and Elizabeth Browning being by me privily examined separate and apart from their said Husbands stated that they executed said deed of their own free will and accord without any force or Coercion on the part of their said Husbands & that they do now fully & freely assent thereto Let said deed with this certificate by Registered Thos.
