William Roberts to William Gattis

Roberts to Gattis

This Indenture made & entered into this the 15th day of December AD 1843 
Between William E Roberts of the County of Orange & State of North Carolina 
of the one part and William Gattis of the Same County & State of the other 
part, witnesseth that the Said William E Roberts for & in Consideration of 
the Sum of Four hundred & forty Dollars to him in hand paid by the Said 
William Gattis, the recpt whereof is hereby acknowledged The Said William 
E Roberts hath given granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth give 
grant bargain & sell to the said William Gattis his heirs & assigns forever A 
certain tract or parcel of Land lying & being in the County & State aforesaid 
on the head waters of Eno river adjoining the Lands of John Allison, Morgan 
Smith, Thomas Wilkinson & others Begining at pointers said Smiths Corner, 
running from thence East with his line forty Eight Chains & fifty links to 
a Stake & pointers also Said Smiths corner, then South five & a half chains 
to pointers, then East Nine Chains & Eighty five links pointers Thomas [?] 
Corner, then South thirty Eight Chains to a Stake on Thomas Wilkinsons line, 
then West with his line ten chains to a Stake his corner, then South Seven & 
a quarter Chains to a Black Oak Said Wilkinsons corner, then West three Chains 
& Eighty links to a Stake Said Allisons Corner, then North fifteen Chains to 
a Rock his Corner, then West forty three & a half Chains to pointers, then 
North thirty five & a fourth Chains to the first Station Containing Two 
hundred & twenty acres be the Same more or less To have & to hold the Said 
tract or parcel of Land with all the improvements & appurtenances unto the 
Said William Gattis his heirs & assigns forever, against him the said William 
E Roberts his heirs & assigns & all other persons lawfully claiming the
same forever, and the Said William E Roberts for himself his heirs & assigns 
will warrant & forever defend all the right & title of the same unto him the 
said William Gattis his heirs & assigns forever
   In Witness whereof the said William E Roberts hath hereunto set his hand & 
affixed his Seal the day & year first above written  Signed Sealed & delivered 
in presence of Nathl Bain  )
