This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Charlie Weaver cwgen@OLS.net ==================================================================== The early issues of the Hillsborough RECORDER newpaper carried lists, on a space available basis evidently, of addressees of letters being held in the Hillsborough postoffice. Typically these lists were published about every two weeks, with an "as of" date, and names were repeated two or three times. These lists do not necessarily prove that a certain individual was actually living in Orange County, only that someone thought they were. However, the lists do give credible circumstantial evidence that an individual lived in, or passed through, the area served by the Hillsborough PO. This also does not mean that the person had left the area, but perhaps had not been to town lately. Volumes/numbers skipped mean that a list was identical to a previous list or that issue of the paper was missing. Slight differences in consecutive lists will be indicated with notations. This and subsequent lists will list names exactly as shown in the original, with occasional "guesses" at hard to read names or parts of names indicated in [-]. Names spelled as in original, surname caps added. To save space, original columned format changed to line format with alphabetical separation. Number after surname probably indicates number of pieces being held, not two/three people with same name.
