Not now recollected [the name James Thompson was crossed out] that was organized on Back Creek in Orange County, marched to Granville Old Courthouse, returned to Hillsborough in Orange, from Hillsborough we marched to the Hick Rock on Haw River when we joined General Greene, crossed the river there and marched under Greene to Guilford Old Courthouse and was under him in the battle fought there on the 15th of March, 1781.” “This applicant continued with Green’s army on its march to Ramsey’s Mills. Here he parted with the main army of Greene and under General Butler was marched to Wake Courthouse. We were at Wake Courthouse about the first week in May, and directly returned to Hillsborough where we were discharged by General Butler after being out a tour of 3 months.” “This applicant states that in the year 1782, he was appointed by General Alexander Mebane commissary, and acted in that capacity for 3 months, supplying with forage certain troops of our militia then stationed in the town of Hillsborough in this county, for which service as commissary he received a certificate from A. Mebane, but has now lost it.” “That this applicant has also served in two or more tours against the Tories, but not being able to give them with precision, he does not enumerate them." He can procure the testimony of Samuel Nelson, James Turner and William Allen. That he was born in the Hawfields in this county in 1762.
