Sherard "Greenwood" 1110 Fourth Avenue West Hendersonville, North Carolina Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the records of soldiers with surname Meredith, War of the Revolution of South Carolina. The Revolutionary War record of Henry Meredith which follows was obtained from the papers on file in pension claim S.9402, based upon his service in that war. This is the only soldier of that surname of South Carolina, found on file in the Revolutionary War records of this office. Henry Meredith was born in the year 1757 in Baltimore County, Maryland, the names of his parents are not shown. He resided in Orange County, North Carolina during the Revolution and served as follows: in 1777, three months in Captain Pleasant Henderson’s company, Colonel Joseph Williams’ North Carolina regiment; in 1779, three months in Captain Davis Grissam’s company, Colonel Taylor’s North Carolina regiment; in 1780, three months in Captain Abraham Allen’s company; in 1781, three months in Captain William Douglass’ company, Colonel William O’Neal’s North Carolina Regiment, and was in a battle with the Tories at the "Quaker Settlement near Haw River"; the services in 1779, 1780, and 1781 were all in the Light Horse. He also stated that he was taken prisoner near Hillsborough by Cornwallis’ Army and paroled in about one week, no further details given. Henry Meredith moved in 1784 to Laurens District, South Carolina. He was allowed Pension on his application executed October 19, 1832, then a resident of said Laurens District. There are no data in this claim concerning the family of Henry Meredith.
