That they rendezvoused in the town of Hillsborough, and were marched to the south and joined General Greene’s army, and was in the Battle at Eutaw Springs in the fall of said year and after the expiration of his 3 months tour, was verbally discharged in the aforesaid town of Hillsborough and returned [home?]” The declarant knows of no person now living that served this tour with him, except James Dollar of Chatham County.” “The declarant, the said William Moore further states that he served a 3 month tour of duty in the United States service in a company under command of Douglas, captain, O’Neal colonel, Butler, brigadier general. Were marched to the south, were stationed for a while at Bell’s Mills on Deep River, Grassy Islands and Pedee. The term of his service he cannot now recollect, but is under the impression it was the year before the Eutaw Battle. The declarant now further alleges that he knows of no person living that was in this tour with him.” “The declarant further states, that in the spring of the following year, 1782, there was a draft for 3-months militiamen; when this declarant was detailed to guard the town of Hillsborough, in which were prisoners and military stores and etc, to guard. Perill was captain, Farmer Colonel, John Estes commissary.” Additional Comments: William Moore died January 14, 1849 and left this declaration for his children to make a claim. His wife, Martha Moore had died July 22, 1827. His children did file and included the pages from his Bible as proof they were his children.
