He was ordered out into the country for the purpose of pressing wagons and teams for the service of the United States and together with others, did press 6 wagons and teams for the service of the United States, and delivered them to the officers commanding at Kingston in the states aforesaid whose names he does not recollect, from whence he returned home having served 3 months this tour.” “2nd, he was drafted in Orange County, North Carolina and was attached to a company of cavalry commanded by Major McLory [probably McCrory]. He was marched to South Carolina under James ?Armstrong commanded by General Greene at the High Hills of Santee. From thence he was marched to the Eutaw Springs and was in that engagement. His term of service expired in a few days after the Battle of the Eutaw Springs and he was discharged and returned home, having served 3 months and some days on this tour of duty.” “3rd, he volunteered in the same county, joined the company commanded by Captain John Taylor and was stationed at Hillsborough to guard the country from the depredations of the Tories. He remained there until his tour of service was expired, which term was 3 months. He was then discharged and returned home. He thinks this tour of duty was performed in 1780. A.D.” “He thinks about 1 year after the 3rd tour was performed, and joined the company commanded by the same captain, to wit, John Taylor, and was again stationed at Hillsborough to guard the Tories and protect the country from their ravages. He remained at Hillsborough until his term expired and he was discharged having served 3 months in this tour of duty, having served in all, 1 year. Questions of the Court: I was born in Orange County, state of North Carolina the [?6th] [?4th] of May, 1756. I have no record of my age, having lost that with my other papers ____ _____, but I have seen it frequently and know my age is stated correctly in my declaration. I lived in Orange County, NC when I entered the service. I continued to live in the same county until near 26 years ago, when I moved to the state of Tennessee, Smith County, where I have continued to reside ever since, and am now a resident of Smith County, Tennessee. Smith County, TN, September 19, 1838, Elizabeth Hunter, aged 76 years: “That she was married to Samuel Hunter on the [left blank] day of August 1787. That her husband, the aforesaid Samuel Hunter died on the 12th day of February, 1834."
