Orange County, NC – John Taylor Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. J.A. Hedden Springfield, Massachusetts Dear Madam: You are advised that it appears from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W.18114 that John Taylor, while living in Orange County, NC, served as follows: He was appointed August 12, 1776 as wagon master to an Indian expedition; July 24, 1777, paymaster to the Eighth North Carolina Regiment; November 6, 1778, quartermaster for Hillsborough District; March 11, 1779, commissary and quartermaster in Orange County, NC; March 15, 1779, brigade quartermaster to General John Butler’s Brigade of Militia; April 10, 1779, lieutenant in Captain Turner’s Company, Colonel McDowell’s Regiment of Militia; June 13, 1780, forage master to Colonel Anthony W. White’s Southern Cavalry; October 11, 1780, commissary at Hillsborough; fall of 1781, captain of Dragoons, and served as such three months and in 1782, for three months as captain of militia. He married November 24, 1775, Winifred Horton, and he died May 28, 1826. She died March 29, 1837. Their children were: Bethiah born September 20, 1776 John born March 23, 1778 Susan born December 29, 1780 Elizabeth born November 3, 1784 Thomas born April 1, 1786 Their surviving children, John, Elizabeth, Thomas and Susan were allowed pension on account of their father’s services on an application executed January 10, 1838 by the daughter Susan who was then a resident of Orange County, NC Very truly yours, E.W.
