Orange County, NC - George Wilkins Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HeritageQuest Online Series: M805; Roll: 868 Image: 531; File: S32605 November 4, 1937 Mrs. Brooks Collings Rockville, Indiana Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the record of George Wilkins, who served in the North Carolina troops, War of the Revolution and received a pension on account of his services. The data which follow were obtained from the papers on file in Revolutionary War pension claim, S.32605, based upon the military service of George Wilkins in that war. George Wilkins was born March 6, 1758, in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. The names of his parents are not shown. While residing in Orange County, North Carolina, George Wilkins volunteered about Christmas, 1782, served as a private in Captain Clement Hall's North Carolina Company, and in Colonels Lytle's and Dixon's North Carolina Regiments and was discharged by Colonel John Armstrong, having served more that one year. After the war, he resided in North Carolina until 1816, then moved to West Tennessee, and lived six years; thence to East Tennessee, and lived three years; thence to Indiana. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 12, 1833, while a resident of Parks County, Indiana. He stated that he had been a minister of the Methodist Church for thirty years. It was stated that soldier had six children, only name given is son James Wilkins. The name of soldier's wife is not given. The names of seven children of James Wilkins, son of the soldier, are shown, as follows: Thomas Wilkins, in 1852, a resident of Fulton County, Illinois; George, William, Benjamin and John Wesley Wilkins; Polly Kent and Betsy Matheny. The dates of birth of the children of James Wilkins are not stated nor are the names of the husbands of Polly Kent and Betsy Matheny shown. All were living in 1852.
