The News, Hillsboro, N.C., Thursday, October 5, 1944
Carey Edward Buckner died at Duke Hospital. He was 45 and history instructor 
at the University of North Carolina.
He was awaiting a physical checkup at the doctor's office when he collapsed.
An abdominal hemorrhage attributed to his death.
He taught 8 years in Durham High School.
He served as principal of Burlington High School for four years starting in 
1931.
He became dean of Brevard College in 1935 and worked there for seven years.
In 1942 & 1943 he was principal of Chapel Hill High School and became a member 
of the university faculty in 1944.
Survivors:
Wife: Bess Reap Buckner
One Daughter: Miss Beth Buckner
Two Sons: Bobby and Edward Buckner all of Chapel Hill
He was born and raised near Asheville and a member of Chapel Hill Methodist 
Church.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
