Scott Cates, 67, died suddenly at home last Saturday at 7:30 from a heart attack. He was thought to be one of Hillsboro's most prominent citizens and business men. He had been in the merchantile business in his younger years. He retired about 20 years ago and spent much of his time improving his many real estate properties. He organized the Hillsboro Power and Light Company about 30 years ago and was president until it was sold to a large utility corporation. He was president of Hillsboro Building and Loan Association for many years. Survivors: Wife: Alice Smith Cates Three brothers: Claude Cates of Burlington; Currie C. Cates of Spencer and F. S. Cates of Hillsboro Nephews and Nieces: a large number Funeral conducted at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, by Rev. S.W. DuBose. He was a member of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church.
