Dr. Duty was a native of Granville county and was widely and favorably known as a man of energy, truth and moral honesty. For several yeas he was an itinerant minister of the M. E. Church but for near forty years of the latter part of his life, he was an acceptable minister of the Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Duty was the father of thirteen daughters (and no son) eleven of whom lived to be grown, and all of them have been first class teachers and preceptresses. He was perhaps the only man in this county who ever received the degree of M. D. on the "Thompsonian" plan. He leaves an aged widow and a large circle of friends.
