Memorial Hospital late Saturday. He was 97. A retired faculty member of the University of North Carolina School of Education, a novelist and poet dramatist. He retired in 1947. Before retirement he worked 20 years on the faculty of the education school and of the Chapel Hill High School. At Chapel Hill High School he was in charge of preparation of English teachers for public schools. He taught physics teachers in World War II. He taught a quarter century in city schools in the state of New York. Head of English Department of Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn until coming to Chapel Hill in 1921. Directed and produced plays through the UNC Faculty Playreaders. Survivors - A daughter: Mrs. Beverly R. Thurman of Chapel Hill and New York 4 grandchildren Funeral held Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Vance Barron.
