The News of Orange County, January 4, 1972
Harvey Rountree Gates, of Rougemont, died Sunday, December 31, from an 
apparent heart attack.
He was 87.
He was attending a funeral service at the time of his death at New Bethel 
United Methodist Church.
Retired farmer and native of Orange County.
Member of New Bethel United Methodist Church.
Funeral conducted Tuesday, January 2 at New Bethel United Methodist Church.
Rev. Richard Parsons conducted the service.
Burial in New Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors:
Widow: Mrs. Annie Cothran Gates
Two daughters: Mrs. Edna Earle Reaves of Martinsburg, West Virginia
Mrs. Mary Lee Aiken of Charlotte
Three sons: Carr Gates of San Diego; Harvey Gates Jr. and Paul Gates, both of 
Rougemont.
One sister: Miss Lillie Gates of Durham
One brother: Alexander Gates of Hillsborough
14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
