Son of Rev. A. W. Mangum, a Methodist Minister and Professor of Philosophy in the University, 1875 to 1890. Nephew of U.S. Senator Lee S. Overman While a student at the University, he was a pitcher on the University team. Was in the U.S. Soil Survey, the U.S. Forestry Service and commissioned by the Dupont interests to develop a camphor farm in Florida. Survivors: One Brother: Dr. Chas. S. Mangum of Chapel Hill Two Sisters: Miss Etta Mangum and Mrs. N.H.D. Wilson of Elizabeth City Funeral and burial in Franklin.
