The News of Orange County, March 30, 1967
Thomas J. (Tom) Whitfield of Rt. 1 Chapel Hill, died Tuesday afternoon at the 
home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Cecil.
He was 78.
Funeral services held at 2 pm at Antioch Baptist Church by Rev. J. Howard Tew.
Burial in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Orange County and a World War I veteran.
Survivors:
Two daughters: Mrs. Robert Cecil and Mrs. Oscar Cecil, both of Chapel Hill
Two sisters: Mrs. Floy Ward of Chapel Hill and Mrs. R. Strider of New London
Three brothers: Ernest of Durham and S.A. and J. F. Whitfield both of Chapel 
Hill
Pallbearers: Erie Ward, Curtis Whitfield, Hillard Ivey, Jasper Whitfield, 
Raymond Whitfield, Aubrey Ivey, Albert WHitfield and Horace Ward
