Ben Yates, 74, died in a Durham hospital after an extended illness.
A native of Forsyth County.
Operated Orange Plumbing and Heating Company in Carrboro a number of years.
Survivors:
Wife: Mrs. Mamie Johnson Yates
Six daughters: Mrs. Walter Hester of Hillsborough, Mrs. William P. Dunnaway of 
Durham, Mrs. Ernest Cox of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Hidy Rochelle of Durham, Mrs. 
Lacy Tilley of Hillsborough and Mrs. Fred Clark of Hillsborough.
Two sons: Ervin Yates and James B. Yates, Jr. both of Chapel Hill
14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild
Two brothers: Tom Yates of Chapel Hill and Luther Yates of Hillsborough
Two sisters: Mrs. B.D. Riley and Mrs. D.F. Waters, both of Hillsborough
Funeral services held 3 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home chapel by Rev. F. G. 
Peterson
Burial: Palmer's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery
