All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Ben Franklin ben.franklin.ffru@gmail.com May 2024 Source: Will Book Volume A, pages 166-167 Written: April 18, 1771 Recorded: Jan 1773 Testator: Joseph Barnett [Will Book Volume A, page 166] In the Name of God Amen the Eighteenth Day of April 1771 ~~~ I Joseph Barnett of the County of Orange Being Very Sick and weak in Body but in Perfect mind and Mimory thanks be to God there fore Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and Knowing that it is Appointed for all men Once to die do make and Ordain this my Last will and Testament That is to Say Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in a Decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors Nothing Doubting But at the General Resurrection I Shall Receive the Same Again by the Mighty power of God and as Touching Such Worldly Estate where with it hath Pleased God to bless me in this Life I give demise and dispose of the Same in the following manner and form and first I give and Bequeath to Rachel my Dearly Beloved wife Two hundred Acres of Land which I live on her life time & also all my Household goods Debts & movables to Rais[e] and maintain the Children until Such times as they Shall Come of Age &c also I give to my well beloved Son Samuel Barnett whom I also Constitute make & ordain to him two Hundred Acres of Land lying & Being on Hico now inhabited by Humphrey Barnett to gether with his Mare and Saddle &c and also I give to my well betoved[sic] Daughters Mary & Sarah Barnett whom I like wise Constitute and give the Sum of ten Pound Virginia Money to Each of them &c and if the Child that my wife is with Child be a Daughter and Should live it Shall be also Raised with the Rest and get Ten Pounds Equal to my other Daughters which money Shall be levied and Raised of the Estate &c lent if it be a Son he Shall have two Hundred Acres of land at his Mothers Decease lying on James Creek that I now live on to gether with a Horse and Saddle Equal to Samuels ~~~~ [Will Book Volume A, page 167] But if a daughter then the Said land Shall be Sold and Equally devided with the rest of my Children &c I do therefore Disannul all & Evert other will and disown and Acknowledge this to be my last will & Testament Signed Sealed pronounced and Attested in Presence of us John Barnett Joseph Barnett (seal) William Miles Thomas Barnett North Carolina { Orange County { January Inferiour Court 1773 The Execution of the within [-xout] Will was duly Proved in Open Court by the Oath of John Barnett and Ordered to be Recorded Test F.
