First I give to my wife Catherine for use during her life all my land in Orange County …… being my interest or one half of a tract of land owned jointly by my son Jim and myself lying in the Sand Branch near the Eno River & adjoining Alston A. Whitted & others & containing in whole 23 acres more or less. Second, After the death of my wife, Catherine, I give all of my said land to my daughter Anna to have & to hold to her & his heirs forever. It is my will & decision that Alston A. Whitted attend to my said daughter's business provided it meet with her approbation for him to do so – My reason for making this request is that I think said Alston is a suitable person and will in that position advise her in her business transactions.
