In The Name of God Amen. This twenty fourth day of September in the year of
our Lord Christ one thousand eight hundred three. I LAZARIUS CATE of Orange
county and State of North Carolina being very weak of body but of perfect and
sound memory thanks be given unto almighty God for the same + knowing that it
is appointed for all men once to die I do hereby constitute ratify and confirm
this my last will and Testament (that is today) first of all I recommand my
soul and body into the hands of almighty God who first gave them to be buried
in a Christian like manner at the direction of my Executor ery at the general
resurrection of the dead to receive the full forgiving of my Lord through
Jesus Christ our lord savior and I do hereby give + bequeath of the said will
the following manner + form. First of all, I decree that all my Just debts
should be paid, + all the remainder of my Land, Horses, Cattle, Hogs, + Sheep
with a ll my Household furniture I give + bequeath unto my loving wife
MARGARET CATE during her widowhood and afterward to be equally divided between
my five sons WILLIAM CATE, JOHN CATE, ISAIAH CATE, THOMAS CATE + BENJAMIN CATE
+ I do hereby appoint Cal Burton and Henry Burch Executor of this my last will
and testament resolving and dispelling all other wills and Testaments by me
made as Witness I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and
year first above written.
