I, William Clendenin of the County of Orange and state of North Carolina being old and infirm tho of perfect mind and memory Thanks be to God for same, calling to mind the mortality of my body, yet knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make, constitute and ordain this my last will and testament. Principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul to the Almighty God who gave it, and my body to dust to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors. And as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I demise, give and bequeath in the following manner after my decease. First I give and bequeath to my young wife Mary four hundred acres of land where I now live including the dwelling and all other buildings for her own proper use during her natural life and then to revert back to the use of my two young sons William and John to be equally divided between them. I give to my loving wife her bed and furniture and every species of property received her at our marriage. I likewise give to her the choice of the cows. I have also a brown mare by the name of Cate. I likewise give and bequeath to her thirty pounds in currency to be paid from the sale of my movable property after my just debts are paid. Secondly I give to my son Joseph ten shillings. I give to my daughter Polly ten shillings. I give to my daughter Rebecca five shillings. I give to my daughter Fanny five shillings. I give and bequeath to my daughter Jinny a good feather bed and furniture, a cow and calf known by the name of Blackey, a young filly two years old known by the name of Toby, her saddle and bridle, a tea table and the largest iron pots. I give to my niece Ann, daughter of John Clendenin, deceased, a cow and calf to be valued at four pounds ten shillings. I likewise give and bequeath to my two sons James and Fisher four hundred acres of land ________ ________ to be equally divided between them as the ________ think proper. Also I give and bequeath to my youngest sons William and John the home plantation mentioned above to be equally divided betwixt them after they arrive at lawful age still reserving to my beloved wife Mary her countenance and use of her house should she be a widow at that point. Should either or both of my youngest sons, William or John, die before they arrive at the age of twenty one years then the estate of both or either of them is to revert back to my sons James and Fisher and to be equally divided between them. Lastly, I give my son William a coffee pot and half a dozen silver teaspoons. The residue of my property not specially willed is to be sold to the best advantage and the surplus of any after paying my just debts is to be divided between my two younger sons for the purpose of educating them. Also I appoint, constitute and ordain the late Executors of this my last will and testament the following persons: John Thompson, Esquire, and Andrew Murdock and D. Dicallow. I revoke and ________ all and any other will and testament by me made and ________ by me ________ before mentioned and named ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament in witness.
