I Rebecca Davis of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory, And in perfect health, but considering the unsertainty[sic] of life, do Make and publish this my last will and testament as follows. ---- After payment of all my Just debts and funeral expenses I give and bequeath to my daughter Racheal one dollar. --- Item second, I give and bequeath to my grand Son Jno. Davis one bed and furniture, I also give and bequeath to my grand Son David Davis one bed and furniture, I also give and bequeath to my grand daughter Hetty Davis that bed and furniture which she now claims as her own. I als[o] give and bequeath to my grand daughter Eliza Ann Davis, that bed and furni =ture which she now claims as her own. ~~~~ I give and bequeath to my grand son David Davis one hundred dollars in money, or property over and above an equal Share with the above mentioned legatees viz. John Davis, Hetty Davis, and Eliza Ann Davis, After the distribution of the above mentioned property, it is my will that an equal divide of all the balance of my property whatsoever (viz. land, money, parishable property, &c.) shall be made between the four above mentioned legatees, viz. John Davis, Hetty Davis, Eliza Ann Davis, and David Davis, ---- In Case either of the Above Mentioned legatees should die unmarried And without issue, it is my will that an equal divide of their share of my estate shall be made among the surviveing legatees abovementioned. ----- I her[e]by Appoint my good friend[s] ____________________________________ Executors to this my [last] will and testament hereby revokeing all other wills heretofore by me made, In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the eleventh day of July in the year of your Lord One Thousand eight hundred and forty four. ---- Signed, Sealed and published in presance her of { Alexander Anderson Rebecca (+) Davis { John Taylor mark [Will Book Volume F, page 373] In the name of God Amen! Term 1847 The Execution of the foregoing last will of Rebecca Davis Decd was duly proved in Open Court by the oath of Alexander Anderson one of the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded Test. Additional Comments: Will Book Volume F, pages 373-375 Recorded Nov 1847 The name of the executor was left blank on the will, so David Davis was appointed as administrator by the court 24 Nov 1847 Estate Papers comprise 23 pages and are found in a folder labeled "Davis, Rebecca (1847)". The bulk of these papers concern how the land was alotted. Distributees: David W Davis, John W Davis, Henrietta Davis, and Eliza A Davis. Testator "departed this life in ____ 1847."
