All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Ben Franklin ben.franklin.ffru@gmail.com May 2024 Source: Loose Will, NC Archives CR 073.801, Will Book Volume E, pages 285-286 Written: May 6, 1831 Recorded: Nov 1832 Testator: John Hicks In the Name of God amen I John Hicks of the County of orange and State of North Carolina Being Weak in boddy but of Sound mind and memory,, thanks be to God for the Same Calling to mind that it is appointed For all men one[once] to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say Principally and First of all I give and Recommend my Soul to God who gave it and my Boddy I give to the Earth to be Buried in a Decent Christian manner at the Discreation of my Executors nothing Doubting but at the general Resurrection I Shall Receive the Same Again by the mighty power of God,, and touching Such worldly Property as the Lord has Been pleased to Bless me with in this Life I give premise[demise] and dispose of the following Manner and form Viz After all my Just debts is paid I will and Desire to my son James Hicks one Cow and Calf one Feather bed and farnature,, I will and Devise to my Daughter Frances Hicks one horse worth fifty Dollars one Cow and calf one Feather bed and Furniture - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I Will and Devise to my Daughter Jane Hicks one Horse worth fifty dollars one cow and calf one Feather Bed and Furniture also one New Saddle to be worth ten Dollars - - - - - - - - - - - - I will and devise to my son John Hicks one cow and calf one Feather Bed and Furniture one Negro Man Named Bob which I leave in my son John Hicks's hand to take care of - - - - - - - - - - - I will and Devise to my son Thomas M Hicks one cow and calf one Feather bed and Furniture which He has allready got My Son Thomas M. Hicks has had one horse worth seventy Dollars which is to Come out of his part of my Estate - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I Likewise Allow at my Death for my Negro woman Named Jane[June?] to be set free and go to Franklin County to her children,, it is my Desire Likewise for all my Real and personal property to be Sold and after all Expenses is paid to be Equally Divided amongst my children Namely James Francis Jane John Thomas I Constitutes[sic] my Beloved Sons James Hicks and John Hicks Joint Executors of this my last will and testament Desireing my sd. Sons to take upon them the charge and trouble there of and to see the same performed according to my true intent and Meaning and lastly I do here by Revoke all other wills By me made and declare this to be my last will and Testament In witness Whereof I the sd. John Hicks have here unto set my hand and Seal this Sixth day of May one thousand Eighteen hundred[sic] and Thirty one Signed sealed in presents of us the subscribing Witnesses attest James Threwhill John Hicks (seal) Wm Brannock Jurat John Hicks qualifd as Exr.
