I William Holder of the County of Orange, and the state of North Carolina, being at this time of a sound and perfect mind and memory (Blessed be God therefore) Do this Fifteenth day of May Eighteen Hundred and Seventeen; do make and publish this my last will and testament in the following Manner, Viz I give and Bequeath all my lands and tennaments also all my personal Property of every Kind to my Beloved wife Mourning to be possessed by her during her life or Widowhood; and after her decease to be sold and equally divided between my Children Viz Chesley, ["William, Daniel" x-out] Polly, John, Hosea, Lydia Nancy, Elijah and Elisha --- And I do hereby Nominate and appoint my Son Chesley Holder to be my Executor of this my last Will and testament; and I do hereby revoke and annul all and every Will heretofore made. And further I do hereby publish and declare this to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year first above written Signed, sealed, published and declared } to be the last will and testament of the } his Subscriber William Holder in the presents } William (X) Holder (seal) of us who have signed as Witnesses in } mark his presents and in presence of each other } Thomas Flint jurat Harrison Christian Exr. qualified [Will Book Volume E, page 74] In the name of God Amen I William Holder of the County of Orange & State of North Carolina being at this time of a sound & perfect mind & memory (blessed be God therefor) do this fifth day of May Eighteen hundred & seventeen do[sic] make & pub= lish this my last Will & Testament in the following man -ner, Viz. And further I do hereby publish & declare this to be my last Will & testament In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this day & year first above written his Signed, sealed, published & William (H) Holder (Seal) mark [Will Book Volume E, page 75] declared to be the last Will & testament of the subscriber William Holder in the presence of us who have signed as Witnesses in his presence & in the presence of each other Thomas Flint Harrison Christian Orange County February Term 1825 The Execution of the foregoing last Will & Testament of William Holder was duly proved in open Court by the oath of Thomas Flint a subscribing witness thereto & ordered to be recorded - At the same time the Executor therein named duly qualified Test Additional Comments: Will Book Volume E, pages 74-75 Recorded Feb 1825 The "his mark" in this case looks more like a signature. It is in a different hand than the will, and appears to have used a different pen. No estate papers found.
