In the name of God Amen. I William Holder of the
County of Orange, and the state of North Carolina, being at
this time of a sound and perfect mind and memory
(Blessed be God therefore) Do this Fifteenth day of May
Eighteen Hundred and Seventeen; do make and publish
this my last will and testament in the following
Manner, Viz I give and Bequeath all my lands and
tennaments also all my personal Property of every
Kind to my Beloved wife Mourning to be possessed
by her during her life or Widowhood; and after her
decease to be sold and equally divided between my
Children Viz Chesley, ["William, Daniel" x-out] Polly, John, Hosea, Lydia
Nancy, Elijah and Elisha --- And I do hereby Nominate
and appoint my Son Chesley Holder to be my Executor of
this my last Will and testament; and I do hereby revoke
and annul all and every Will heretofore made. And further
I do hereby publish and declare this to be my last will
and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this day and year first above written
Signed, sealed, published and declared     }
to be the last will and testament of the   }        his

of us who have signed as Witnesses in      }        mark
his presents and in presence of each other }

In the name of God Amen I William Holder of the County
of Orange & State of North Carolina being at this time of a sound &

day of May Eighteen hundred & seventeen do[sic] make & pub=
lish this my last Will & Testament in the following man
-ner, Viz. I give & bequeath all my land & tenaments also all
my personal property of every kind to my beloved wife
Mourning to be possessed by her during her life or
widowhood & after her decease to be sold & equally
divided between my children, viz, Chesley, William,
Daniel Polly, John, Hosea, Lydia, Nancy Elijah
& Elisha  And I do hereby nominate & appoint my son Chesley

The Execution of the foregoing last Will & Testament of William Holder
was duly proved in open Court by the oath of Thomas Flint a subscribing
witness thereto & ordered to be recorded - At the same time the
Executor therein named duly qualified

The "his mark" in this case looks more like a signature.  It
is in a different hand than the will, and appears to have used a different pen.
