All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Ben Franklin ben.franklin.ffru@gmail.com May 2024 Source: Loose Will, NC Archives CR 073.801, Will Book Volume G, pages 430-431 Written: November 26, 1863 Recorded: May 1864 Testator: Jehu McAdams { North Carolina } { Orange County } Know all Men that I Jehu M'adams of the County of Orange & State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my Earthly Existence as I having to go into the service of my Countrey[sic] as a soldier do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say First that my Executor (herein after named) shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relaction[sic] and friends and pay all funeral Expences together with my Just debts howsoever and to whomesoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into his hands as apart or parsal[sic] of my Estate Item I give and devies[sic] my nogro[sic] man Thompson to my Step Mother Melinda Mcadams and my sisters Margarett J Mcadams and Harriett F Mcadams in Equal po[r]tions & is to remain on the planta tion & be in their Employ untill they wish to make a divide and then the said Man Thompson shall chose his Master and My Executor shall sell & convey title at his Valuation of the Said boy Item second I give & devise to my two sisters Margarett J Mcadams and Harriett F M'adams all of my Land which fell to me by my father and I also give & devise all of my money or cash that may be on hand at the time of my death to Harriett F M'adams & Margarett J Madam My Sisters & als[o] all other property of Every description to the two sisters above named Lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my trusty friend F Walker my lawfull Executor to all intents & purposes to Execute this my last will & testament according to the true intent & meaning of the same & every part & parsal & clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by my heretofore made Finish on the other side [page 2] In witness whereof I the said Jehu Mcadams set my hand and seal this the 26 of November 1863 Signed seald published and declared by the said Jehu Mcadams to be his last will & testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence do subscribe our ["hands" x-out] names as witnesses thereto Witnesses his J. Signed sealed published and declared by the said Jehu McAdams to be his last will & testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence do Subscribe our names as witnesses [Will Book Volume G, page 431] thereto his J Y Baynes Jurat Jehu (X) McCdams (seal) A H W Pattilla mark Orange County ourt May Term 1864 The foregoing last will and Testament of Jehu McAdams was duely proven in open Court according to law and order[e]d to be recorded Additional Comments: Will Book Volume G, pages 430-431 Recorded May 1864 Estate papers comprise three pages and are found in a folder labeled "McAdams, Jehu (1864)". Inventory, dated August 1864, includes "one negro Man some 35 years of age" - this would likely be Thompson Loose will is in a folder labeled "McAdams, John 1864". Name is clearly written "Jehu", both on the loose will and in the will book.
