Coroners Inquest Daniel McCartney - 9 Jun 1788 [Will Book Volume B, page 44] Orange County Inquisition and taken at the plantation of William King in the County aforesaid the 9th of June 1788 before me John Taylor Esquire coroner of said County upon view of the Body of Daniel McCartney as Child of John McCartney late of the County aforesaid then and their lying Dead and upon the Earth of John Hogan Nathaniel King Baxter King Samuel Crag Charles King Robert Baker James Blackwood John King Stephen Loyd John Strain Joseph Kirkland & William King good and lawful[?] men of the Parish of Sai[n]t Matthew the said County of Orange who being charged & Sworn to enquire how and in what manner the said Daniel McCartney by his death Came upon their oaths do say whose names and seals are hereunto subscribed and annexed being duly summoned sworn on an inquest held this 9th day of June 1788 at the house and plantation of William King on the Body of Daniel McCartney a Child of John McCartney supposed to have died of the abuse he receive of Rachel Cooper after examining all the Testimony that could be produced & examinig[sic] the body of said Child do find that his death proceeded from a natural Cause of an inflammation and gangreen arising from some accidental Contution[Contusion] on his leg and ascending into his body and that the said Rachel Cooper was in no wise instrumental to the death of the said Child Given under our hands and Seals the day and year first above written [Will Book Volume B, page 45] In testimony whereof as well I the said coroner as the Jurors aforesaid to this Inquisition have severally put our Seals the day year and lace first above mentioned Samuel Craig (seal) John Taylor Coroner (seal) Robert Baker (seal) John Hogan Foreman (seal) John Strain (seal) John King (seal) Baxter King (seal) Joseph Kirkland (seal) William King (seal) James Blackwood (seal) Charles King (seal) Nathaniel King (seal) Stephen Loyd (seal) Additional Comments: Will Book Volume B, pages 44-45
