I Katherine Piper of the County Orange & State of North Carolina being of sound mind and Memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do this 19th day of September A.D. 1860 make and ordain this instrument to be my last will and testament in manner & form following that is to Say that my executor hereinafter named provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relatives and in the usual Christian manner and that all funeral expenses be fully paid out my any monies that may first come into the hands of my executor as part & parcel of my estate Item I give devise and bequeath to my two sisters Rachel Piper & Sarah Piper during their natural lives and the lifetime of the Survivor of them all my property real and personal of every description of which I may be possessed at the time of my death and after the death of the survivor of my said Sisters my will and desire is all all[sic] of said Personal property that may remain together with the Land now belonging to me be equally divided between my niece Sarah Strayhorn and George Piper share and share alike to them their heirs and assigns forever And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my worthy friend James H. Pratt my sole executor to all intents & purposes, to execute this my last Will and testament and every part and clause thereof according to the true intent & meaning of the same, hereby revoking all other wills and testaments by me heretofore at any time made In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the day and year first above written Signed Sealed published and declared by the Said Katherine Piper as and for her last will and her testament in presence of us who attest Katherine (X) Piper (seal) the same by her request in her presence mark and in the presence of each other S M Link Thomas Whitaker Joseph A Whitaker [Will Book Volume H, page 56] In the name of God Amen.
