All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Ben Franklin ben.franklin.ffru@gmail.com May 2024 Source: Loose Will, NC Archives CR 073.801, Will Book Volume G, pages 383-385 Written: October 15, 1851 Recorded: May 1862 Testator: George Pratt In the name of God Amen I George Pratt of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind, and in good health - but knowing the uncertainty of life, and the certainty of death - do make, ordain and publish this as my last will and Testament Item 1st It is my will and desire that my Executor, hereinafter named do pay all my just debts ~~~ Item 2nd I give and devise to my beloved wife Nancy Pratt The plantation on which I live for and during her natural life, and at her death To my son Thomas Pratt and his heirs forever -- I likewise give to my said wife Nancy The Two following negro slaves Viz Nance and Alfred during her life, and at her death to my son Thomas Pratt, his heirs and assigns forever ~~ I likewise give to my said wife Nancy all my crops of every description household and kitchen furnature and all my stock of cattle, sheep and hogs, during her life, and at her death, to my daughter Jane Pratt, her heirs & assigns forever ~~ Item 3rd I give and bequeath to my son James Pratt the two following negro Slaves viz: Henry and Emiline, to him, his heirs & assigns forever~~ Item 4th I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Pratt the [page 2] three following negro slaves viz: Joe, Mary, and her child Sally. to her, her heirs & assigns forever ~~ Item 5th I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas Pratt the two following negro slaves viz: Alexander & Caroline, to him, his heirs & assigns forever ~~ Item 6th I give and bequeath to my Grandson George Morgan Pratt, son of Thomas Pratt, my negro slave Stephen, to him, his heirs & assigns forever ~~ Item 7th I give and bequeath to my Grandson John Hart Pratt, son of Thomas Pratt, my negro Slave Bill, to him his heirs & assigns forever ~~ Item 8th I give and bequeath to my son William Pratt, the sum of Five Dollars ~~ Item 9th I give and bequeath to my daughter Polly Woods, the sim of Five Dollars ~~ Item 10th I give and bequeath to my daughter Phebe Bishop, the sum of Five Dollars ~~ Item 11th I nominate my Son Thomas Pratt, Executor of this my Will ~~~ In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 15th day of October 1851 Wits: Henry K Nash Jurat George Pratt (seal) Pride Jones Codicil to the foregoing Will I George Pratt named as the Testator in the fore= =going will, do hereby make this present Codicil, which I do order and direct Shall be taken as a part of my foregoing last Will and Testament, and which will, in all respects exception wherein it is altered or changed by this codicil, I do hereby republish and affirm ~~~ 1st I give and bequeath to my son William Pratt my Negro girl Sally with her increase, instead of giving her to my daughter Jane as mentioned in the fourth clause of my will ~~ 2nd I give and bequeath to my daughter Phoebe Bishop my negro girl Jenny with her increase to her & her heirs forever ~~~ 3rd I give and bequeath to my grand-son James Pratt son of Thomas Pratt my negro girl Julia with her increase to him & his heirs forever ~~ 4th I give and bequeath to my grand-son Thomas, son of Thomas Pratt, my negro boy Joe, to him & his heirs forever ~~ 5th I give and bequeath to my grand-son Edmund R.
