All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Lou Tate Walker skywalk1@embarqmail.com January 23, 2009, 3:39 pm Source: Nc State Archives, Orange Co Will Book Written: February 1774 Recorded: May 1774 Last Will and Testament of George Tate, made 1774 [Copied from Hillsboro, NC records] In the name of God, Amen: I, George Tate of the county of Orange and Province of North Carolina, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I therefore make and ordain this my last will and testament to wit, I first and principally give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body I recommend to Earth to buried in a decent and Christian manner at the discretion of Executers, nothing doubting but that at the General Resurrection I shall revive the same again by the mighty Power of God, and as touching such earthly estate wherein it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give, devise and dispose of in the following manner to wit: Item First: I give and bequeath to my two sons, James Tate and George all my lands to be equally divided in quantity and quality. Item Second: I give and bequeath to my eldest daughter Kitturreh Tate, sorrel mare. Item Third: I give and bequeath to my seven daughters, namely Kitturreh, Akup, Mary, Elizabeth, Litten, Janet and Margaret ten pounds Prov. Money and a bed and furniture immediately after marriage and in default of marriage at the age of 21 yrs to each of them. Item Fourth: and lastly my will is that my beloved wife shall be whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament, and that she enjoy the benefit of my land and the appurtenances there unto and all the rest of my estate and monies and the interest of the same during her life, or widowhood, that she may be enabled to satisfy my creditors and raise my children according to the ability of said estate. In witness whereof; I have set my hand and seal this the first day of February 1774.
