I Jesse Thomas of the County of Orange & State of North Carolina being old & frail but of sound mind & memory knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die My body I recommend to this Earth from whence it was taken - my Soul I commit to God who gave it and as to such worldly property as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life [I] dispose of the same as follows - First I give and bequeath my son Nehemiah Thomas all my Lands and Tenements to him his heirs & assigns forever and also I give to my son Nehemiah Thomas all my perishable property of all kinds & sorts, stocks of all kinds - house-hold furniture of all sorts only my case of drawers I do allow to go [to] Elenor Rippy - I do allow for my son Nehemiah Thomas to pay out of my Estate to my daughter Jane Donnerly five Dollars & also to pay my daughter Caty Thomas Ten Dollars & also to pay my daughter Mary Hubbert five Dollars I do allow for my son Nehemiah Thomas to pay out of my Estate to my Grand-Son Thomas Thomas One hundred & fifty Dollars and also to pay to my two Grandchildren, to wit Nancy & Caty twenty five Dollars [Will Book Volume E, page 140] a piece, all their legacy here above mentioned I do allow for my Son Nehe= miah Thomas to have two Shares to pay them off after my death -- I do now revoke and disannul all other Wills heretofore made by me & do allow this to be my last Will & testament I do appoint my son Nehemiah Thomas my Executor desiring him to take charge thereof and have this my last Will properly executed in whereof I Jesse Thomas do this 17th day of August 1826 set my hand & seal Signed, sealed & published & delivered by the said Jesse Jesse Thomas (seal) Thomas the Testator as his last Will & testament in the presence of us ho have sub= scribed our names - as Witnesses in the presence of the Testator Test Robert Lackey his John (X) Underwood mark Orange County May Term 1827 The Execution of the foregoing last Will & testament was duly proved in open Court by the Oath of Robert Lackey one of the subscribing Witnesses thereto & Ordered to be recorded Test Additional Comments: Will Book Volume E, pages 139-140 Recorded May 1827 Original loose will is too faded to read.
